J. Kay Marshall 1931 ~ 2008 Our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, James Kay Marshall, passed away on April 23, 2008, following his valiant fight with cancer. Kay will be remembered for his kindness, patience, dependability, and friendly smiles. He leaves behind his wife, Kathleen, to whom he was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple 51 years ago, and their seven children: JeriLynne (Scott) Walton; Cindy (Mark) Alm; Pam (Cory) Gardiner; Marilyn (Steve) Benner; Connie (Eric) Lofthouse; David (Angie) Marshall; and Jami (David) Stensrud; 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Kay was born May 29, 1931, to Florence Farnworth Marshall and Franklin D. Marshall. He lived a life devoted to our Heavenly Father. Kay served a 2 1/2 year mission to New Zealand in 1951. He had many callings in the Church, which he fulfilled with love and devotion, including Elder's Quorum President, Stake High Councilor, High Priest Group Leader and Bishop. He served with Kathleen as a missionary at the Bishop's Storehouse on Welfare Square. Kay's last calling was that of serving in the Branch Presidency of the Coventry Care Center and the Wentworth Assisted Living Center in Cottonwood Heights.
After Kay's retirement from the business world, and the closing of his carpet store, he found himself with too much time on his hands, so he took a job working in security at the airport, and at the same time as an usher at the Delta Center, the latter of which he worked for almost 15 years. We, as a family, would like to thank the staff at EnergySolutions Arena and the Utah Jazz players and coaches, for their kindness and compassion which they showed to Kay this past year, as he struggled with his cancer. During his final days when the battle against cancer had taken its toll, Kay was still full of hope and faith.
He was ever the constant example of patience and love, just as he was throughout his life. Even when exhausted after visits with doctors, nurses and well wishers, he would forgo rest to visit with his precious grandchildren: Holly, Derek, Ryan, Austin, Brittney, Alisa, Kim, Heidi, Bryson, Stephanie, Parker, Mike, Cole, Kyle, Devin, Cassidee, Megan, Wyatt, Emma, Brooklyn, Madison, and Xander.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 28th at 11:30 a.m. at the Cottonwood Heights 2nd Ward, 6890 S. 2225 East. The family will greet friends at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 South, Sunday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. the day of the funeral at the church. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Kay's name to the Perpetual Education Fund or the American Cancer Society.
