Yet another young Boy Scout has gone missing in the mountains of Utah. (read story here) It seems like this is becoming an all too familiar story, and I guess I'm just having a dificult time understanding how this continues to happen. Just last year, another young Boy Scout was lost in the same area, and his body has yet to be recovered.
My son is only 5, so he has not started Scouts yet. As a mother, I was excited for him to become one and to learn so many things and use that knowledge to become a better person. But everytime I see another one of these stories emerge, I begin to re-think if I will even allow him to participate afterall.
Why are these boys not better supervised? I don't mean to say that the men that were with these boys weren't qualified to be there or weren't doing their jobs. But in one article I read about this missing boy, it said that he and a friend walked back to the campsite alone and somehow got seperated. Why were these boys allowed to walk ANYWHERE by themselves? I don't care if the campsite was 15 feet away. These are children, and they should be accompanied by an adult AT ALL TIMES!
Now that I have ranted, let me say that my heart goes out to this boys parents, friends and family. I can't imagine the pain they are suffering, and I am praying for little Brennan's safe return.

Why Is This Still Happening?

I'm so glad they found him! It seems like Utah is the only state that misplaces boy scouts!
These are such scary times. I hate having my daughter out of my sight sometimes. It is definitely hard not to be overprotective. I am constantly amazed at how much some people will allow their children to do without supervison.
I also feel so bad for the families involved. You never think it will happen to you.
It is not just in Utah!! A boy scout yesterday in Farmington drowned on a rafting trip.
His raft tipped over, the adult and 4 boys fell out. Only one boy drowned and the others seem to be okay.

I am sure the families could use all the prayers they can get.
